Abstract

|
|
One case of pseudomyxoma peritonei is reported along with literatures review. 35 year old man was admitted with the complaint of right lower quardant abd-ominal pain and tender mass during past 2 years. No history of change of bowel habit or weight loss was obtained, however, he noted slow-growing hard tender mass over right lower qaudrant of abdomen since past 2 years. The mass was measured grossly large-egg size and it was fixed, not-movable and suface was irregular on palpation.
Barium enema study showed pressure indentation on the ileocecal area and appendix was not visualized. Chest x-ray showed minimal active pulmonary tuberculosis over right apex. Intravenous pyelography showed megaloureter of right side due to stenosis at the level of distal quater Otherwise physical and laboratory findings were not significant. With the impression of intestinal tuberculosis, exploratory laparotomy was performed and pseudomyxoma peritonei was found. Due to severe adhesion and wide-spread pathology, it
was inevitable to do right hemicolectomy and nephrectomy.
Patient´s postoperative course was uneventful and discharged on post-operative 14th day. Surgical management and post-operative management are discussed with its general incidence and pathogenenesis.
